Eudora Folder — to prevent Eudora from creating a real one in your System Folder

“Create Eudora Folder” is a script to facilitate setting up Qualcomm's Eudora Light software to accommodate multiple users and/or e-mail configurations on a single Mac OS computer. When run, it prompts for a name, creates a new folder “name's Eudora Folder” on the desktop, and launches Eudora so the user can specify the desired settings. Once configured, the entire folder can be moved to a more appropriate location, or copied to a portable medium (such as a Zip cartridge) and used on multiple computers.

When Eudora Light is run for the first time, it normally creates a “Eudora Folder” within the startup disk's System Folder. This is undesirable in many school, business, or household environments, and may be impractical where “security” software is used to restrict file access.
You can prevent Eudora from writing in the System Folder by copying the included “Eudora Folder” document to your System Folder. Once you've done that, Eudora will insist on being offered an existing Settings document or it won't run. It doesn't give you an option for creating a new one (hence the motivation for this script).
While you can launch Eudora with your settings by opening the “Eudora Settings” item in your Eudora Folder, it's usually more convenient to make an alias to “Eudora Settings” (or drag it to a Launcher window) and open that instead.
Tip: In a school environment, consider dragging this script to a Launcher window, renaming the alias Eudora, and giving the alias a custom icon taken from Eudora's application icon.
